He's really a handsome youngster! The chasing is actually pretty normal.. the Master is letting the teenager know who's boss. Personally, I like having a Junior/Senior pair in the flock. Senior stays more vigilant and Junior watches and learns. It makes the cockerel a better harem-master when...

At just six weeks, Rusty is looking a bit "boyish," which gives me hope that my own 6-week-olds may have an extra pullet or two in there, somewhere, because we don't have nearly as much red, yet ... but it's been awfully hot, so I'm not uncrossing my fingers, yet. If Rusty does turn out to be a...

VERY cool! We don't do any tricks, yet ... although it's in the eventual plans ... but our little Nankins are Darwinian Supermen - surviving to keep their breed alive against all odds! That's enough to support our breed conservation talks - that and the fact that, for most of the visit, they're...

LOVE IT! I'll have to get a pic of Siri next to Pippin, her Nankin "big brother." Pip was the lone hatchling of a small 'bator batch. He was so tiny and so alone that he sent me searching for snuggle buddies at school. I was hoping for another bantam - any bantam - or even a crested Polish. I...

The Sussex should be okay, but I don't know much about Leghorns ... the only large fowl we have are a pair of Kindergarten dropouts from one of the schools where I work ... a Production Red and a surprise Jersey Moose ... err ... I mean .. Giant. The PR is small enough to mingle, but the JG, at...

I went back to check out your little bantam's "baby pic," and you've got yourself a Nankin! The super tiny size and the little black line on the top of its' fuzzy yellow head are the telltale giveaways. I'm surprised to find one in a TSC brooder bin. It must have been a late-day hatch at the...

Ideal does sell Nankins - a critically endangered chicken breed - but they appear to be a recovery strain - Nankin crossed with OEGB or Dutch. True Nankins are extremely rare, so if it's a Nanny, you have a little gem, there! Check out The Livestock Conservancy's website for more info...
