Here is my test hatch that Pyxis incubated for me - isn't the spitz so cute ! The others are a mix from my hen that is over 5 years old and still laying HUGE and consistent eggs -so I decided to see she passed that on to peeps ... just for the large eggs :)
The white sounds like they are not going to be spotting in correctly - but always wait until the first molt to make sure on coloring - I'll post a pic of my month old chick so you can see her spotting - I say her because her tail is already taking on the fanning of a good hen ... so we all hope...
ha ha Lovely !
Yes - mine popped out as soon as I opened their door and clucked about - I opened my main coop and the chickens just looked at me and stayed inside for hours until a late afternoon foray to the bird feeder.
Yes - now that was what I was asking for .... I have a single spitz chick in with 2 much bigger mixed chicks and she rules the brooder ! :) bopping all around and up her branch and pushing the others out of the prime dusting and scratching spots :) IT was just a fertility test hatch...
So sorry ! Yes the predators come back for weeks to see if they can get another one.
Hawks usually migrate - so this one may have you as the winter grounds and another pair may scope your area in the spring .... I have a big pair that checks my area out a few times a week - I send the dog...
ha ha - love all these pictures !
I'll have to get some more of mine to share.
I am also very pleased with the size and amount of eggs from such as slender and well-mannered bird.
OH ! I'm sure pleased with that - of course one pic doesn't say it all - but the tail set looks nice to me - crest good ... maybe a wee bit too much black on chest? Looks like she has nice dark eyes !!!
I'd also love to hear the input from others !
ha ha ha
One of the first SS peeps I hatched out on my own is a teen now and showing white heavy so far - I'm actually pleased with that as he can balance out my other black heavy hen .... his crest is pointed perfectly but way too small - but he has good dark eyes and slate legs.
Personally - I like the darker crest with the white tips ... but don't know what others think.
:) she looks like she has a good balance of white and black.
I'm not guessing
I always guess wrong - and since I don't cull until well after the first molt or even the first year - I keep 'em all until they are fully adults .... Maybe more expensive in feed - but I think many cull too quickly and miss when a bird grows into some traits ... but that...
They finally held still long enough for decent pictures - the roo and two hens I got from phodora buds - the other hen I have is in the coop hiding .... of course.
