    NY chicken lover!!!!

My little coop is built out of 2x4s and cattle panels, it's 8x8x4 and cost less than $100 to make. Some of you might remember that I posted about picking up some "araucanas" at an auction a few weeks ago that were missing their tail feathers. I couldn't find a number to call the club so I'm...

I have five guineas that follow my Dominique rooster all over the place, funniest thing!

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Yep, I made a newbie mistake for sure. The girls I got have "beards" like EEs and not the full whiskers like in the pictures you've posted. I couldn't look at them up close and their wings covered their rumps so I couldn't see that the feathers were missing. Live and learn! I'll get some...

Rancher I'd purchase a few of those pullets if you are willing to let them go, I don't have any blue or lavender girls yet and Syracuse isn't too far for me :) I'm going to see if I can call someone at the Twin Tiers Poultry Club this week and report those birds. There weren't labels on any of...

Gramma Chick, I'm pretty sure they're pullets. But they aren't the "buttless" auraucana they were advertised as, just Easter Eggers.

Ugh, that doesn't make me happy. I have a toddler and thus no time to clean out a box for her everyday :( On a different note- went to the poultry auction in Bath today and picked up two pullets that looked like they might be auracanas. Got them home and looked them over- someone had pulled...

Thank you, I absolutely can make her a deep bedded box to help keep her warm. Great to know that will do the trick! Ag29ande- No More Silkies! I got three chicks hoping for pullets and got two roos that are not very nice, between them and worrying about the pullet I don't want any more.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi everybody, I haven't checked in for a long time so I'm just getting ready to scan the posts I missed and see how you all have been doing. In the meantime- I've got a silkie pullet that I'm thinking of rehoming. She won't roost with the other birds because she can't fly and my roosts are too...

Eek! Good to know before I went out and bought some. I hope we both can find some keets. I saw some on the local Craigslist the other day but I wasn't able to act on it since I have nowhere to put them right now.

Did they fly away even after being kept in the coop for a week? I was thinking about getting older guineas...

Thanks Rancher, I may be in the market for some more EEs next month too. My husband is very excited about getting colored eggs.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm in New field right outside of Ithaca. My big coop is getting built at the beginning of next month which will leave my small coop open for guineas.

Howdy folks, I'm planning on going to the poultry swap in Bath this September, does anyone have comments on it? I'm hoping to pick up a few guineas.

I hear you about those roses. We've been clearing our land so I can expand the horse pasture and those blasted plants are everywhere! They grab you and don't let go. Nasty things.

That's terrible. I hope you have good aim, sounds like otherwise it'll just keep coming back for the free meal. Those birds are too darn smart.

I've never had them so I don't know for sure, but people have told me they're better than dogs for letting you know when someone or something has stepped onto your property. Personally I'd be more than happy if all they do is chow down on the ticks.

Thank you for reminding me about the electric poultry fence, that would be very handy to have around. I loss in 3 years sound like pretty good odds to me. I lost my runt chick a few weeks ago to a crow. A crow!

Oh yeah, we've got coyotes, though according to the number of rabbits and deer in my yard they don't come around here much. I'm trying to talk my husband into a donkey just in case, also planning on having a coop full of guineas as an early warning system. The feral pigs got eaten a few years...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Excellent, thank you! My birds currently free range during the day and I'm hoping they can keep doing that. I've got a little 8x4x4 cattle panel coop for them now (little because I have 27 birds, they won't fit in there much longer ) and they really don't go in there when the sun shines at all...
