@TheOddOneOut is the only other person who I have seen touch on this subject. A link to her thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...hink-you-have-an-ameraucana-do-check.1421663/
She goes through all the basics. I wanted to go a bit...
Ok. I have seen too many posts with people saying "Here's my pure Americana (note the spelling) what color is it?" The pic is always of a beautiful EE.
So here goes: THESE TRAITS are what determine whether yours is the rare pure Ameraucana...or the very common EE!
(EEs are mixes that lay...
I have 7 adorable EE cockerels looking for a good home. They are 8 weeks old and have amazing beards and muffs. We have handled them frequently and they love to run up for treats and don’t mind being held. All were hatched from blue eggs.
I hate to send all these to freezer camp! Located in...

A Neighbour was getting rid of her chickens and said They were all 10 week old Hens. I can’t tell if “Mary” is a hen or roo. “She” is also almost twice the size of the 10 week olds I already have so maybe she’s older?
I bought 2 mystery chicks yesterday. They're a week old. They have the sweetest chipmunk markings, hairy legs, and one has 5 toes! Likely some sort of cross? What might they grow up to be? I just love them so much!
We have 5 one year old hens: 2 Americana, 1 lavender Orpington, 1 leg horn and 1 barnevelder.
Since early February I haven’t gotten a single from the Americanas. We chalked it up to cold weather and not much sunlight. Even though the other girls were laying in full force and we keep a heat...
Hi, again! I have six other chickens I had questions about, so I'm going to go ahead and post their pictures and hope someone can help me out! Their breeds and names are on their photos, along with pictures of their feet if that helps at all!
Hi all,
have a mystery going on and need help. Our 2 year old americana is not laying eggs in the coop. I am trying to figure out is she super good at hiding the eggs, or is there a health or environmental issue stressing her out.
The Setting
Here is some background live in a suburban area...
I just couldn’t help myself when I went to pick up some things from my local Atwood’s. :idunno
Let me introduce you to my 6 new chicks, 3 “Americanas” and 3 bantams, all with temporary names:
lil Mama, the sweetest and most friendly of all the chicks
Chip, a pretty reddish chick who loves to...
This is my 2nd new flock of 40 hens down to 12 now. My 1st flock had laid 4,000 eggs and this new flock has laid over1,000 eggs and now we are on another 1,000 eggs going into the 6,000 egg count the rest of this year. Love my Girls!! We have double yokes too.
You all have been so helpful that I’m asking again. These kids are coming up on 4 weeks, so it may be too soon to tell, but... The brown one was sold as an Americana and the black two were sold as Prairie Bluebell Eggers. They were all supposed to be pullets. One of the black ones barely has any...
Here’s my 12-week-old Easter Egger, Miss America. What do you think? Pullet or cockerel?
And, I know this is a long shot, but any ideas what it’s crossed with?
I’m wondering what she is mixed with. She was sold as an “Americana” which I now know thanks to the BYC Community means nothing and is just a marketing ploy by hatcheries capitalizing on the similarity to the Ameraucana name. She’s an Easter egger and I’m totally ok with that!
She’s from...
Morning, new to the group. We have had chickens for a few years, not much experience with Americaunas, thats what they ere labeled at Tractor Supply.. Wondering if this one is a Rooster? About 13 weeks old. Thanks
Hi! I am brand-new to raising chickens and realized not long after I got my chicks that they may not be what the feed store said they were. Also I read the hatchery they came from may not be the most reputable. I believe they are 4-5 weeks old and I think I have two Welsummers, three SL Polish...
