I already have a flock of 5 bantam hens and one bantam rooster. I usually have to buy large eggs for cooking. I want to get 3 or 4 standard rode island reds or barred rocks. I built the coop I have now. Its big enough for +- 15 bantams.
Can I keep the bantams and standards in the same coop?
I’ve just mostly finished my first chicken tractor build it’s 6x12’ with a 3x6’ roosting area. Looking for suggestions for my next one. 3/4” hardware cloth on the run, it will be roofed with a tarp over the run portion, solid roofing (metal or plywood) on the roost box. 1” hardware cloth under...

Hi there, I'm Sam. You may know me from when I've been called Samantha, Tamara, Sumatra, etc. Nope, just Sam! I'm twenty years old, twenty one on the 27th of April, and came to this website because I was on gumtree and saw some baby quails and thought to myself, 'I'm going to...
Hello everyone, I am new here and still finding my way around. A kind person suggested that I post in this area. Long story but I hired people to strengthen, insulate and make some modifications to my chicken coop. Paid for materials, relayed what my wishes were, paid for materials and nothing...

Good Afternoon Friends,
I am new to owning chickens. I’ve had my girls Shannon, Peep and May for approximately 6 months. My girls recently started laying eggs as of Tuesday this week. I have some concerns to this.
How do I know the eggs are safe for consumption? I’ve researched this...
Hi! I was wondering if I could solicit some of your expert opinions - we have 4 ~4 week old (hopefully) hens. We purchased from a local individual who makes them this coop with attached run. My father is going to help me add on to the run as we think due to high level of predators in our area...
This project started in December initially as just an expansion to the existing coop. A little background. I inherited my small flock just about a year ago when my neighbors moved and could not take the chickens with them. I received from them 8 hens a 4'x4' coop, and 9'x9' run with no cover...

So we built our coop in April about a month after we got our chicks! After learning more and more, we have give the ladies and gents(surprise gents) some upgrades!!! Let me know what you think!! The dust bath is a hit!!!
I am in search of a low cost 4x8 chicken coop plan w/ material list. I'm not the most handy when it comes to building things but I can follow instructions. HELP!!!!
I designed and built my own coop and run with my dad. The kids painted the inside to make it a happy place for the ladies. It’s easy to clean and access, and it keeps my NY ladies safe in the winter without a heat source.
I lost 3 of my 8 hens last night to a pack of coyotes, 2 Light Brahma and my Rhode Island Red. I grew up on a farm so not really new to this per say but our girls are more like family pets roaming (and pooping) the yard.
So this hit pretty hard :(, especially that I went down to close the gate...
Hi chicken lovers. Just moved to the Ohio countryside with my hubs , 4 children, 2 dogs and now 15 chicks. They are a mix...for rainbow eggs and I'm not quite certain of the breeds. Yet. I'm considering building a coop in our pole barn which will eventually house other animals and a workshop on...
Hi Friends,
I currently have 25 chicks and am preparing to build their coop.
I'm hoping to build a raised coop, but wonder what to do about the bedding. The coop will be constructed of wood, which means I cannot use the deep litter method as the wood will rot, and I fear this will happen...
I'm fixing up an old horse stable that was once converted into a turkey coop but was in serious disrepair when I came along on the scene. In many places I just have no idea what they were thinking when they "built" stuff...or how things were used. I've gotten most of it fixed up now but I'm...
So finally got the framing done and put in the ground today! I did an 8x8 modified build from the Downeast thunder farm design. Just gotta cut and put up the rafters but this was all built with wood I found in the barn so some of it was warped and I had to make it work. All free lumber, only...
How do you like your a frame coop? My idea is to have the bottom as an enclosed run and put the roosts and nesting boxes enclosed I part of the upper structure. Seeking experience, advice, and maybe pics if you have them.
I have 10 bantams right now in a brooder but they’re straight run so best...
Hello everyone! So we recently finished building a quail run/coop after being buried for a month under tons of snow in east/central NYS. We had a couple nice days in February where we got the frame and roof on plus a bit of the hardware cloth before getting hammered with 3 nor’easters. I finally...
