The farm we own was the first automated chicken farm this side of the Mississippi. In fact much of the original system is still intact in the Spring house.
I am trying to decide if we should use the old chicken house again. (2 foot thick stone walls) I’d need to remake the coop area and run...
I'm planning on building a new coop. My question is, I'm going to be starting small 3-4 chickens. But I plan on expanding my flock in the future over say 3 years, to about 12. Would it be better to go ahead and build the bigger size? The winters here are mild and not a problem. The summer is hot...
Hi everyone! With the horrible storms that TN is supposed to have tonight and into the rest of the week, I decided to move our small flock from their coop into the barn (horse stall). When we bought our coop, we were less educated than we are now, and are worried about it's stability (currently...
Hello there,
I need help on picking a house for my call ducks out of the following pictures - I have one of those minds that will search for houses for ages and then still not be able to pick one.
Okay I have two ducks, hoping to have ducklings mid-March, hopefully 4-6. This house will be...
I was in my chicken coop today and I was surprised to find a very odd design on one of the eggs! I’m not sure if it’s just a fluke or something else caused it. If you think you know, please tell me!
I’m new to the forum, but eager to show off my coop because I think it came out nice. My design was certainly inspired by the popular “Wichita” style. If you’re interested, I’ve included a link that summarizes my coop build:
Next year I will get 5 chickens and I hope to have a finished coop to greet them.
I am planning for an insulated coop as winter can be a bit on the cold side. So with time on my hands, I set out to draw a design using SketchUp. (It has been a bit of a learning curve).
The coop is to be 8 x 4...

These are my boxes. They are about 18-24" about the floor. The girls dont like them :( I have heavy breeds (buff orpington) and they will be getting curtains this weekend. Should they have a landing bar like the one shown in the drawing below? Thanks!
Our family has had an interest in owning chickens for quite some time. It has been difficult making the final decision because owning animals requires a lot of energy, time, and dedication. My career precluded adding more responsibilities to an already busy schedule that involved work, travel...
Please ignore junk, and yes, the roof is burgundy. That's another story.
Hi, everyone. I have a coop on the works. Any ideas on how to increase the curb appeal to a chicken owner?
It is 4x7 free-range house on skids. It has a vermaculite floor (which is almost like really durable...
We have an open top coop that will have the roosting area covered in the winter. There is a roof or clear cover over the open top to block rain and wild animal waste from falling into the coup area. Do you think that this is ok? We live in Southern California.
This contest ends exactly 30 days from now. (Thursday, June 15 - Sunday, July 15)
Please post a picture of your home made chicken coop!

Has anyone used EMT Electrical conduit for a run frame? I'm on a budget and will soon be walling in our prefab coop/run into a coop only, raising it off the ground and building a separate run.
I had seen PVC used, but I was wondering if EMT would be stronger and more durable in the long run...
