sometimes when I've been getting my duck eggs in the morning, they've succeeded in submerging the eggs in poopy mud...I never thought this was a problem since I thoroughly wash them before I give them away or sell them. But I recently learned that bacteria CAN penetrate the shell??? wtf *mind...
Hello,
I'm in Clackamas County Oregon, have raised ducks for their eggs since 1986.
All my girls decided to quit laying early this Fall so I'm out of eggs, and allergic to chicken eggs!
Does anyone have any leads on finding some duck eggs to buy?
I appreciate your help!
Okay, I've read quite a bit of threads regarding feeding our feathered friends eggs. First thing that popped in my head was the potato chip commercial with Mr. Potato Head catching Mrs. Potato Head eating chips in the closet. lol
My 1st question is...since my girls aren't laying just yet to...
Oh boy, another post.
I just got home from school and made myself something to eat. Outside I saw one of the Welsummers being chased by the other hens while holding something large in her beak. I went out, grabbed her and took the cracked, empty egg that she was holding. I knew it was from a...
I'm new to raising chickens and we started with baby chicks this spring. A month ago we go our first egg and were so excited. We had a little bit of variety in the ages of our chicks. Our buff orpington is the oldest & pretty sure she was our first layer but she's been so intermittent. Then...

Over the last month, our 2nd flock has begun to lay. However, we periodically find eggs that have obviously been pecked open and eaten. Some eggs are left untouched. How do I figure out who it is? The 2nd flock consists of all hens. The breeds are 1 of each: white leghorn, golden laced...
I've read that giving your chicks a hard-boiled egg once a day is really good for them but I want to know should I mix up the whole thing eggshells and all? and if so should I be mixing up really finelly so that the eggshells don't hurt them?
Thanks!
I've got 2 young (maybe 7-8 months old) SFH roos in with 2 hens (and some 2 month old pullets for future hen relief). I keep finding only one egg a day, or no eggs and wet egg goop in the hay in the nesting box. Today I've observed both roosters climbing into the nesting box, for who knows what...
