Mites are evil little creatures that can drain your poor flock of the will to even be active. Mites can drink chicken blood, eat feathers, and sap energy from your birds, which is why they are so harmful to your flock. Here are some methods for finding and eradicating an infestation of mites...
This was taken a few months ago. The downy feather is from Rosemary the Head Hen. I think a Chariots of Fire soundtrack would work well with this video. Well, maybe not really.
Please try to ignore my calloused fingers and rough cuticles. Lots of digging around in the dirt!
Cheerios, folks...
One of my hens started having poor color in her comb and wattle (or whatever it's called) not too long ago, and I've noticed her feathers look unkempt as well. The other hens don't seem to bother her, and they let her eat just fine. They are livestock, not pets, so I don't handle them...
My goodness.. I had to share these photos taken today while pulling maintenance on the farm.
We breed a variety of types of poultry but by far my favorite full breed are Mottled Java Chickens.
Our breeders just finished a molt and one of them transformed into a beautiful almost opposite...

Hi y'all!
I'm a novice small flock chicken-lady in Austin, TX. I have 5 different breeds that are all molting or recovering from molting at the moment. My brahma has me scratching my head though. She went through a hard molt at the end of September (almost 2 months ago) and grew back feathers...
Hey all, my 10 month old easter egger is losing a lot of feathers and having a lot of green poo with a lot of unprocessed food coming out. She was laying soft-shell eggs for a little while 2 weeks ago, but now she's completely stopped laying.
We thought it was just the winter season stopping...
Buckbeak, my 2yo Dark Brahma hen is losing all her feathers without seeming to grow any back. She currently has a secondary Bumblefoot infection, so she's in a crate in the garage. I've gave her 5 1/2cc shots of Tylan 50, went 4 days without, and gave her 2 more shots. The last shot was...
I have a Silkie rooster who is about 15 weeks old and is missing feathers on the back of his neck. I did look for mites and lice, but I don't see any. He has parts of a feathers, meaning he is not totally bare. One of the hens is starting to look like him, too. Any help would be appreciated.
Ok so I'm new here and this is my first time raising birds, and there's a good chance I'm just worrying too much, but one of my goslings has lost all feathers on a patch on it's neck. Does this look normal to anyone with more experience than me? Any tips or general help is welcome. My gosling is...
Hello! I have included many photos at the bottom.
I have a two and one quarter year old Red Sex Link (named Ariana) who has always laid enormous hard-shelled eggs. In the last two months, however, she has laid continually worse eggs. In mid-April, she started every two days or so laying eggs...
All four of my hens have poop stuck to them. This is either causing feather loss or the poo is just weighing the feathers down. I can clearly see most of their cloacas because of the feather issues.
They seem healthy and happy otherwise though.
Can anybody help?
Okay, I have a duckling that is making a girl noise, but has green feathers towards her tail. I think she is a Ancona, if that helps. She is around 6 weeks old.
