3 years ago I got a call from a friend to pick up a stray chicken who was unclaimed and soon to be euthanized by the vet. While I was watching the video of this mystery chicken, I just knew there was something special about her. My mum and I drove 40 minutes each way to pick her up. When I...
I need suggestions to help with my muddy chicken run. My run in coop was built from an old barn. The framing was good so this is not your ordinary small little store-bought chicken coop. But what we did not realize was the rain water drains directly down to it. We tried to put in a concrete...
Hello wonderful BYC community,
Several months ago I rescued a days-old cross-break chick, figuring it'd be hospice care. Well, I must have done something right because the little guy is still with me and doing well despite his beak, his kinked neck and a host of other maladies. He even eats on...
Our 15 week old Bantam Polish pullet named Flying Eagle is now a house chicken.
She can no longer use her legs aside from using one to hop so now she will live indoors with limited outdoor time with supervision.
I'm now on the search for chicken diapers so that whenever she's not in her cage...
Last week we moved 9, 2 Cockerels and 7 Pullets, all 14 weeks old, to the new Coop after dark. Day one no issues. Day two found one of the Jersey Giant Pullets missing a 2x2 patch of feathers right side of her tail and bottom. The skin was torn and bloody. We cleaned her up and applied Wound...
This is not an argument ground! I feel like this topic is very touchy with some people, so please read the following rules.
Rules!
~ if it's not nice don't say it

With that over. Let's get on, us crazy chicken owners!

Ok so I’ve done some searching and I can’t find anything related to our issue.
I also hope I posted this in the right spot cuz it seems more like a behavior than an illness.
I got a male roo silkie recently.
He’s a house pet.
I didn’t notice his mouth breathing until the diaper was put in him...
Auguat is now 145 days old. 21 weeks old 4 months 23 days to be exact.
I have gone back and forth and gotten several strong opinions for why she is a he or he is a she.
August clucks puxks and purrs
August honks loudly like a goose.
August bellows out a creeky scratchy elevating squack...
Watching a movie with August. She/he really loves gentle pets under chin and beak as well as gentle strokes under the wings and soft touches on her/his upper legs. Those things actually put her/him to sleep.
Cute lil raptor!
So tiny. Much smaller than her/his siblings. Fit in the oalm of one hand. I didn't think this lil chickadee was going to survive.
1 month later, although August seems to be developing slower than other chicks at this age,she/he has grown to about 4 x the size the day I saved her/him from dying...
Finally, I'm posting my first topic! It's kind of a weird question, too, and I wasn't sure where to put it. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place! I'll delete it and move to the proper section if it is!
Anyway, on to the meat of the matter- I know chickens are flock animals, and I've read...
1) For those of you with house chickens, what do you do about dust bathing? I brought a chicken in at the end of October to rehab an injury and now I can't put her back out because the rest of the flock tries to kill her (I've had to rehab 2 more injuries that happened while she was inside a dog...
My parents randomly decided to sell their house (after we bought 12 chickens!) and they're talking about buying a house in Edmond Ok. Currently there's a rule to where you can't have backyard chickens unless you have over 30,000 square feet of land.. and we haven't found any houses that are even...

I have two Bantams (1 rooster, 1 hen) and I need them to mate so I can start a farm, but when ever he gets on top of her to mate with her she loudly squawks and successfully runs away from him, (she is 8-10 months old and he is 4-5 months old) does anybody have an idea to make him successfully...
i have a 13wk old EE that only has one leg. (We are in the process of getting her fitted with prosthesis, picture was just after surgery a month or so ago.) but until then, and possibly forever, she will be a house chicken! But I need help on how people house their chickens inside. I have her in...
