I have an almost two-week-old chick with a severely crooked beak. It is worse today than even yesterday and makes his whole face look misaligned.
I believe he has trouble eating enough food; he seems to appreciate being handfed.
Is there anything I can do for this chick? Will his beak get worse...
Hi everyone! I received 6 baby chicks several months ago from a coworker who got them from a feed store, sold to her as "female Americanas". I'm now understanding that these are Easter Eggers and am afraid one of them may not be a hen! Hoping someone can give me a for sure answer on this...
this little dude is 3 weeks old today. The crossbeak was noticeable within a couple days from hatch, but has been getting progressively worse. He / she is still eating and drinking normally and growth is fine. I have recently read about trimming the beak with guillotine per nail clippers, is...
I'm worried about feeding "crooked" this winter. We have to put water in her food so she can eat it, I also make her scrambled eggs n yogurt. My query is this...how can I keep her food from freezing this winter, I was thinking she may have to stay on the back porch, but there has to be a better...
Hello all,
I got my first set of chicks in end of May. One of the chicks pretty early on seemed more tired then the rest. Something was off. Then eventually it sounded wheezy and almost like coughing and then died at about 5 weeks. All of the other chicks were fine. An emergency vet friend...
I have a little scissor beak polish and the other day she prolapse we doctored her and so on she healed and felt better. After a about a day she started to stay in one place for lots of time her wings will droop and when i offer her wet food she refuses to eat all she wants to do is drink water...
Hi all,
One of my Buff Orpingtons has scissor beak. It is not very bad though, I am not sure what to do. Help please? (I would post pictures but it is dark and the chickens are in the coop.)
She is about 10 weeks old.
Thank you!

Our favorite little chick is cross beaked :(
I’ve read a bit that you can tape or rubber band as they grow to help realign.
Does anyone have experience with this?
It seems fairly minor at the moment and her growth is okay.

I have nine babies in the brooder right now that are 11 days old. I just noticed that one of them is developing scissor beak. I am heartbroken since I am already attached to it. I've looked at the options and I really want to try to keep her and help her. I really need to hear some stories of...
I have a 12 day old EE with a pretty significant scissor beak, became apparent at 6 days. I would love input on people who have had one, what your survival time looked like, and when you decided to cull. She’s so far doing fine keeping up with the other chicks but who knows for how long.
We found that our 10-day-old-EE pullet, Mercy, had a crooked beak forming around a week ago. Since then, it’s gotten a lot worse visually, but it doesn’t seem to be taking a toll on her quality of life at all. She drinks fine, and though she tends to spend a little bit more time with food than...
Hi, everyone!
Yesterday was hatching day for my Lavender orpington. I hatched 8 of 11 with no problem, and 2 died probably on day 19 or 20. But one egg was still alive, but hadn't pipped internally. This morning, on day 22, I opened the egg to see what was going on. I opened the internal sac...
So I just got a new kiddo. A friend bought six americaunas and one of them has scissor beak. I have a lonely silkie chick (hatched myself yay!) Who was the only one to hatch. So I said I'd take her scissor beak kid. I've never had a scissor beak kid. She's a little older then my silkie. Probably...
This 4 week old Silkie Chick started out with a slight scissored beak but since she has gotten bigger the beak has become worse. She is still eating and drinking fine by scooping up everything. Thus her name “Little Scoop.”
I need to know if this needs to be treated by a vet . I feel so bad for...
I have a 4 week old White Crested Black Polish with a cross beak. She is the sweetest little thing and will always come to my hand when I put it in the brooder. We give her wet food mixed with Gerber baby food and we give her water with a dropper a few times per day. She acts pretty normal and...
Help!
I have a four month old silkie hen that came to our home with 7 other chicks the same age. Some regular size some bantams. Everyone got along great without issues.
Recently this silkie was attacked by one of my older bantam hens. The back of her head had been pecked down to muscle tissue...
One of my 1 week old hens suddenly started to have a very bad crooked beak. All of a sudden I've noticed in the last couple of days it has been slowly fixing itself and now is almost entirely back to normal. Is there a cause for the sudden crooked beak and sudden fix? Should I be worried that...
I greatly appreciate any feedback I will receive as I am new to this issue with goslings! And "thanks" to everyone in advance for your help!
I will contact our hatchery as soon as I am finished posting because we received 2 goslings (3 days old) and one has what I believe to be, "scissor...
Hello all!
I wanted to reach out and get some input on anyone who has had experience with scissor beak. I have a 4 week old silkie with it. It’s pretty severe however it is able to eat and drink and is growing and gaining weight. It is a little behind in growth but seems healthy and able to...
I just noticed my one month old silver laced polish chick’s beak isn’t quite right. I had a scissor beaked polish several years ago but this doesn’t look the same. The top of its beak has a very sharp curve and the lower beak seems to be too long. It’s mouth doesn’t close all the way and I’m...
