I know I have already posted this but I am desperate to help this little one and have not had any advice yet. Hoping someone has seen this before.

Hi,

This little one was born yesterday, I realised shortly after hatch that it's leg was held up against its body in a strange position. It's cord was wrapped around it's foot holding it to it's chest. I released it and hoped the issue would resolve quickly. However, I know these things have to be treated quickly and we are 24 hours later with little improvement. I have been giving vitamins b, electrolytes etc. Can anyone advise of the kind of splint to make for this one? She currently hobbles about on the knee of that leg (please see pics). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Xx

Oh no! Poor little baby! I'm sorry, I'm not qualified to give any advice, but hang in there, someone will reply shortly. Did you check and see if anyone else has made a post about the same issue?

Thank you, I have had a look and can see some similar type issues. However, I'm not sure they are the same. I am wondering now if this is a valgus leg. The cord was definitely wrapped around the foot, however, with no change in 36 hours, i am now wondering if something else is at play here. Ppl mention splints and slings, however, I do not think a normal straddle leg splint is right for this and I know time is of the essence. I am also worried she/he may get a sore on the back of the knee joint, although they are on soft pads right now. Thank you for your best wishes x

I just read where a chick was born with the cord around its foot, and they said it was now wearing shoes, but that's not the knee. I'm just guessing here, I've never dealt with this issue, but I would think some kind of splint would be beneficial. I have no idea what valgus leg is, but I'm about to go searching. I'm sending the little baby good healing vibes, and I sure hope you keep this thread updated because now I'm invested. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just read a few posts, and it seems like valgus leg is basically like bowlegged. It doesn't sound like your baby, because it's walking ON its knee....can you splint it with a piece of a straw and a soft hair tie? That's what somebody said they splinted their babies leg with. I

Again, I have no experience with this issue. But I know what it feels like to be worried and want to help and not know what to do....it just seems logical to me, to splint it, but then I'd be worried I'd hurt it worse. Hopefully someone with knowledge on this subject will reply soon. I'm guessing everybody is sleeping right now, but surely a lot of the members here get up with the chickens. 😬

Thank you so much, I am making a splint now and have made a hammocks eat to try and do some therapy. I really appreciate you trying to help.
