The white coturnix also makes way more noise than the other 2 and had the white stuff. However, now I'm confused because, the coturnix that you know is male does not make anywhere near the same amount of noise and also

This one is male, the others aren't feather sexable and don't look like they're laying or sexually active yet, so hard to tell.

I'm less familiar with coturnix. I know with males you can squeeze the foam out but ive never done it myself. I last had them about a decade ago. The italian males were easiest to distinguish with their facial markings followed by the japanese. The other colours unless it crowed or laid an egg I had no idea.

How old did you say the buttons are? I always thought the females were more plump as they are supposed to be slightly bigger than males for egg laying. Males will also do the tidbitting with treats for females.

This is exactly what I thought, they are 7 weeks, which has confused me more. Can you see in this pic what I mean.

A sexually active male will have a bulge under his vent (towards the tail) and if you gently press on that, you will get foam. It is definitely foam, so if you weren't sure if what you got was poop or foam, it was probably poop.

I'm not sure what you mean by "defo".

I think she meant definitely, well at least at 7 weeks they are almost mature. No crows yet? I’ve heard females crow but I don’t think they crow as loud. Buttons I mean.

Sorry, yes I meant definitely. I do not think I have heard a full "Crow" However, with my coturnix, the white one is definitely louder than the others (they are coming to 8 weeks this week). With my buttons, I probably tend to agree, 2 male and 2 female. I am still just confused if they are darth vaders, why they are not obviously male, as I thought there were not females with those colours. 1 clearly has a bib, the others face is almost entirely black. They look different but the same at the same time, lol. I did try to add the recording of their sounds but it wouldn't let me.

They look to me like a normal red breasted pair and a darth vader pair. The 2nd photo would be of the darth vader pair (males are dark, females are light). The first a normal red breasted and the last a normal red breasted female which I think is also called wild.

I still don't know but I think you may be right because from what I have read; Darth Vader is a sub type of "Red Breasted" but should have a white face mask. As you see here, both boys facially are clearly different to each other! I wish they were not all listed as different names everywhere, lol. Do you agree, 2 boys and 2 girls?
