🦆 The DUX has woken up! 🦆

Ten weeks have passed since Sunny Sunshine became a Momma Duck! - Here are the kiddos - and their dad - gulping down the first course of their supper:
In the meantime i have started to build a new duck-house for Sunny and her family, will post some more info this evening…
Do you know how many drakes and hens Frank? I can hear them but can't tell how many are quacking and how many are not.

I tried, but i am not sure yet. When Erbse is using her voice (99% of the time she is awake!) you cannot hear the others. That little girl is so LOUD! đź“Ł
Being cautiously optimistic, it looks like five drakes and six ducks, Sunny and Harry included.
Laura and Tweedledee have raised four drakes and three girls and then the last survivor of the rescue ducks is also a girl.
Overall pretty even between the ducks and the drakes...

According to my doctor i should still loose a couple of pounds, so with a heavy heart, I decided yesterday against visiting that family owned restaurant for fried chicken Sunday and instead bought two 4x4x10 pressure treated beams.
These, together with six cinder-blocks and two pallets form the foundation for Sunny's new duck-house:

A third palette will be added tomorrow, the plan is first to build a screened and covered patio for food and water. In the future i want to add a duck-run around and under the house, something like i had marked out yesterday with some landscaping timber:

And i drove to the local ReStore to buy some flooring and windows:

The larger green window will be mounted on hinges as part of the back-wall (down hill), so that it can be opened for ventilation during the warm season. The bottom part of the wall will either be removable or built as flap, covering the whole width of the house. The idea is to pull the soiled bedding straight out of the house into the wheelbarrow that is parked under the house.
The smaller white window will either go to one of the side walls or be turned into the front door.
I need an idea for the roof: I have some metal roof panels, but i have never build a gable roof before… On the other hand a flat, slightly tilted roof would just look awful.

I also bought flooring material:
full

Particle-board laminate with hardwood backing and what they called "composite tiles" - thin brittle tiles, made from what looks like a mineral component composited with some resin.
I need to figure out how to glue those to a surface, so that they would not shatter.
My idea is to install that laminate upside down, with the wood-side up and then glue these shingles on top.

Think about DUCKS and dry PLANT material…
They would disassemble their own roof in an instance!
And think about the story of the pig, building a house from straw-bales. Just replace wolf with coyote and pig with duck…
That roof needs to be predator proof. - But a thatch roof indeed pleases the eye. 🤔
