1-2” Black bugs under coop, found under wet wood, only seen at night

Definitely not a chicken pest.
Could be lots of different things.
Very hard to ID without a pic.
I'd not worry about the birds.
Might help to know where in this world you live.

Kind of sounds like wood roaches to me. They are not the same thing as the cockroaches that can infest your house. We live near some woods and have found one in our house a few times. (Not many times, and that’s over a 20 year span.)

But I often see them in or around the coop at night. It would have to be at night because any that came around during the day would become a chicken snack in a heartbeat!

Thank you! I think you’re correct, as I removed a piece of wet untreated wood that I didn’t realize was in the coop- I haven’t seen them since. I also haven’t found any signs of infestation on any of the birds and I checked thoroughly after that incident lol! live in Southern Illinois. Thanks for the insights!
