I have 16 weeks old chickens and this morning I went down to see how they were doing and started walking away and started hearing one of them make a very loud hen noise. Just like most people do I looked it up and It said it was the egg song but after she made it I looked and I did see a clear puddle on the ground but no sign of egg eggshell or yolk. And she did not look in distress or anything. She looked really good. I even looked at her butt to make sure nothing was stuck . not really sure Will take any help. Thank you

There is another sound they make that is very close to the egg song. It is what I'd call a nervous alert. They don't see a specific threat but for some reason are nervous. Maybe she heard a sound she did not recognize? Was it windy?

I don't know what that clear puddle was, if it was from her. She may have upchucked or passed something through her system. These things happen and are not always a disaster. I'd certainly watch her but as long as she is acting normally I would not worry.

Some chickens are easy to sex at a fairly young age, some are more challenging even when older. I consider yours a more challenging one.

The legs don't look that heavy, the body conformation is more pullet than cockerel. The comb is red and the wattles are growing in and red, but at 16 weeks that could mean a pullet getting ready to lay. I don't see suspicious saddle feathers but those pointy hackle feathers tells me this is probably a boy.

Sorry!
