Thank you all for your support. It means so much.

I tore the coop apart this morning. Emptied out all the bedding and shavings and scrubbed the heck out of it with Dawn soap (plastic Omlet) getting in all the crevices. I thoroughly hand dried it - with this humid air everything stays wet forever. New bedding and new shavings. Typically, all that is necessary is removing the soiled shavings, fluffing things up and adding some PDZ once a week. I discarded a ton of fresh shavings into the compost pile as I like the nest to have 6 inches of shavings. Probably wasteful. It is cleaned every day but today I needed to detail it thinking fine dust in the crevices is contributing to Goldie's breathing problems. We use triple heated shavings (it's expensive) as they have the least amount of dust compared to the cheap stuff at TSC and they are much softer.

She is coughing / sneezing like crazy this morning. I inspected her closely; eyes, ears, nares, mouth -- all look good. Her breathing is more labored. She was standing on one of her favorite perches and I sat there watching her chest heaving in and out. She is now doing this thing with her beak that makes it sound like she is chewing gum as it is some kind of clicking noise. When her mouth closes, the noise stops so I know it's not her breath. I quickly spoke love to her and had to walk away so she couldn't see my water works.

I ordered Stihl loppers yesterday; won't be in for two days. Getting prepared for what will be inevitable.

Called the hatchery yesterday. Woman was so sweet. Requested the ship date on the 2 new Orps to be moved up a week. Initially they said they were booked solid and I would have to wait the full two and half weeks. I told her of our situation; Goldie's condition and what I'm doing to treat her. I fear our Orpington will be a loner before the pullets get here. She moved the ship date to next week.
Halleluiah and Amen.
She said she also just lost a hen to egg binding / prolapsed vent. There seems to be so much discord these days.

Now our dog is not feeling well today to boot. He usually sits by the run while I work in the morning, but not today, did his business and took himself back in to lie down. Looking and acting punky.

I also awoke feeling something viral. What the heck is happening?
When it rains it pours - just not from the sky.

I am sorry that today is not better... just to check- you are not using cedar shavings correct?
No cedar at all - only triple heated pine shavings - Flock Party. I have to order them online as TSC never has any.
The run is deep litter comprised of compost dirt, some leaves and oak mulch.

I went back to my daily notes - this started a couple of days after the departure of our Australorp who was her best bud. They were always side by side, foraging, sun bathing, in the run, everywhere together - always. I think the sudden loss created so much stress for her that it threw her already weakened condition into overdrive.

Aww- what sweet photos of the two! Just take it one day at a time- try to remain positive that she will progress to get better throughout the day. We are all thinking of you and Goldie!
