I just saw someone else's post about pans and I think its a really great idea for grit or oyster shell as my chickens keep kicking over the pot saucer I have out there for them.

Same with the flock block, they peck so bits & pieces end up all over the floor, so I found metal cookie pan type sheets to place the flock blocks on, then elevate them on landscape blocks so they don't scratch & dig. Pans have just enough of a lip to contain & prevent a mess. I use landscape blocks to elevate the waterers, too, it keeps them from flicking wood chips into the water.
