2024 Christmas Hatch Chicks

Pics
This is Noggy.

I saved her for last because she is sooo cute. She’s most likely a full blood sister to Minty and Figgy, and comes from shipped eggs. Her parents are a silkie and an ameraucana bantam.

Noggy was tested for the lavender gene at The Silkie Lab and she is lav/lav. She is also a satin frizzle and will lay a blue egg. Her comb looks like a walnut comb. And she is so friendly and sweet. She likes to sit on my hand and make cute noises!!

I am so happy to have her in my flock and she will be such a great asset to my breeding program!!
It’s Noggy! She’s my favourite
Doris sat on my shoulder again
I hope she starts laying soon

She’s blue cuckoo, so I can get sex linked chickies from her too
Ooooh that is so awesome!!!! I can see the stripes on her head better in that picture. I have a cuckoo girl (that is really difficult to tell she is cuckoo, she is lemon/buff) and I can’t wait to try and get some sex links from her!

Another week has passed for these babies!!! They are about 11-12 weeks old now!

Here are the boys. And the suspected boys. Frankincense started to crow this week! He is my black boy mix who carries lavender gene and blue egg gene. I wonder if he will be ready to cover my hens soon? Maybe not for another month, I guess we will see. I am just really wanting to get some fertilized eggs to incubate!!

Here is Turtle Dove

Here is Minty. His comb seems to be getting smaller instead of bigger. He is very large so I still think he’s a boy… he just doesn’t look very boyish at the moment.

Here is Swan, I’m sure he’s a boy, but I sometimes wonder if he actually is…

This is Gumdrop. I am leaning towards boy but not 100% sure.

This is Trifle. Can anyone confirm that this is a boy? I can’t tell and she seems more girly now. The crest and beard have been trimmed back so (s)he can see. But super large chick. So probably not but I don’t know. Do the hackle and saddle feathers say boy?

Here are the girls - I am pretty certain on all of them! But they definitely could surprise me yet.

This is Comet.

Beautiful birds! Love them all! :love

Even though Frenchie has yellow beak and feet, she's my favorite. 🥰 Not sure why but she just is. For here, I couldn't keep her for breeding though.

Trifle leans cockerel to me.

Thanks Debbie!!! Frenchie has the cutest personality, I just love her so much. I wasn’t going to keep her but glad I did. She also just has the cutest shape to her. She’s a darling. Even though she doesn’t have the correct comb, beak and eye color, im going to incorporate her in to give better silkie type to my project - especially if she carries the blue egg gene. There is a chance she is dominant white instead of recessive white - Im excited to find out!!

Trifle definitely may be a cockerel. Also the black frizzled NN (Goose) has been picking a lot of fights recently so Im wondering if he is a boy too!

I just had a realization about Frenchie. Maybe it’s possible that she is from my lemon cuckoo hen. She was just reaching the point of lay, I thought I had received an egg or two from her but wasn’t positive, but then I didn’t see any more from her. But it is possible that Frenchie could be out of my Lemon cuckoo and the paint 1/2 silkie 1/2 amban cockerel. If so, then she must be recessive white, not dominant white. I am a little confused as to how she could be recessive white if she is from my lemon cuckoo because is it possible that she carried recessive white? I have no clue. I’m going to keep my eye on her.
