Miscellaneous Meeps - Hatching my Dreams

@2ndTink It's been a pleasure following you on your journey with chickens, I can certainly say I've learned a LOT about many things while tagging along that I never would have learned anywhere else. I wish you and everyone else here in this thread a wonderful new year filled with all the chicken goodness your birds can bring you. ❤️

Yesterday when I was filling the feeding in the old ladies coop, I saw an egg in the nesting box, promptly forgot to grab it and finally remembered it again tonight. When I opened the door I was shocked to find 8 eggs in there! The old ladies are restarting the egg machines :celebrate it's at least 4 different chickens laying, plus a fifth that lays by the door to the run so she always makes me clamber into the run and reach in the coop 🤣

I was so excited to see eggs from our 5 year old hens! If all goes as planned I'll be setting a few of their eggs next month!

Ok fine! Very late update on things over here in the Meep world. It seems my oldest hens are either not so fertile or very good at evading the rooster. Out if all the eggs I've set from them over 3 hatches I have a whopping 1 egg developed and hatched, it's super cute though looks like a Marans 🤣 (it's not, it's a BYM)

Most of the eggs I set so far were gathered during or the week after really bad cold snaps, so I've been having relatively low development rates from most of my pens. A fee are smashing things at 100% or near 100% consistently though.

I have 2 more planned hatches, I'll be setting more eggs this weekend, definitely will have more of the old ladies eggs in there to test out, and then next month I should have a super exciting Marans hatch :ya that I'm a bit nervous about since I've never hatch Marans before  but apparently this will be my first of many because supposedly you get sucked into Marans and it turns into a breed addiction  or so I've been told. Next thing you know I'll have my own team of tactical Marans.

Yes, get all this out of your system, because....(See below)

I've heard of this somewhere...🤔

I've also heard "If you build a Marans coop, they will come"

And just for those not counting...in that post Tink said 'Marans'...5 times. 😉
