I've been thinking a lot about creating 3D designs for my quail as the Time of Quaildom unfolds.

From watching them hatch from eggs to grow into chicks and eventually become laying hens—or even butchering them at 10 weeks—I’ve realized that 3D printing could be a game-changer in solving some common challenges of raising quail.

There’s potential to create practical items like food trays, water bowls, dispensers, housing, cages, and even toys. But the possibilities don't end there! I’ve also considered creating injury-preventing accessories and specialized tools that could make life easier for both the quail and their caretakers.

One idea that stands out is developing disability aids—like splay leg crutches for chicks or curl-toe correction slippers. These could be a unique niche for 3D printing, offering solutions for common physical issues in quail that would otherwise be difficult to address.
What things or issues could you think of that need addressing with a 3D print...?

This is a bit off topic but do hobbles actually help splay leg quail? Has anybody done a controlled study (half hobbled, half not and compare)? I’ve hatched all of two, same hatch, identical looking chicks so assuming same genetics and possible genetic issue (culled parents for other reasons). I did nothing, not really having patience to mess with it. One was fine in 24 hours the other never improved and culled day 3. Makes me curious to know if hobbles actually help or just make us feel like we’re doing something, obviously my n of 2 isn’t proof of anything. Maybe some 3d printed hobbles could be used in said study!

I was thinking of splay leg "splints" that would basically two connected leg bands. If you could make them so they can snap open and closed, they would be a lot easier to put on little quail chicks than rubber bands!
If you provide a drawing I can try and whip it in 3d, also I’ll print it and give it some trial runs…

There are a ton of no waste feeder options for chickens but not so many for quail.
I just finished making a design that is a head-in self filling model… helps keep them from flicking it everywhere…

Is this kinda what you're looking at...? I'm thinkiong to modify them to be like mini hand cuffs... LOL
