This Olive Egger pullet is about 4 1/2-5 months old. I have 6 hens and they do not have a rooster right now. She is in the middle of the picking order - 3 adult hens above her, 2 10-week old hens below her. I thought she was just a bit audacious - she’s always bullying the two pullets younger than her and she’s the first hen I’ve had who’s ever bit me (and has done so multiple times!) She has always been talkative but yesterday started crowing. This morning she came right out of the coop and crowed immediately, just like my old rooster used to do. It’s kind of a short crow, doesn’t seem to have as many syllables as an established rooster crow, but definitely a crow. She’s never been around a rooster before and none of my other hens do this… think she could be a he?
If not, why would she be crowing like this?
The family I got her from 2 months ago told me she was a female, I just took their word for it and didn’t even think about it.
