Sooooo…. Pullet or cockerel? I really want this one to be a pullet. It’s so sweet and quiet and well behaved. None of the other chickens bother it. I’ve been thinking it’s a she… but the wattle made me wonder. It’s not 100 percent fully feathered on the chest yet.

I'm sure by now you've figured out she is a pullet. All my bantam Cochin roosters had a BIG comb by 5 weeks of age, and she is wild type partridge female with a lovely small comb.

I miss my Cochins. They were lovely birds. (Hawk got one, the other finally died of old age, but I have her mixed daughters :)

I didn’t pay much attention to this little Cochin chick at first- I was too smitten with a bantam golden sebright chick that is unfortunately turning out to be a rooster with a nasty attitude. But the Cochin is the sweetest bird of our flock of 10. Gentle, gorgeous, agreeable, cuddly and fun to bring inside for a movie night. I think Cochins are my new favorite because of this little partridge gal.

I’m sorry you lost one to a hawk - this is always a concern. But I am glad to hear you had one to enjoy through her whole natural life. :)
