5 year record broken!!!!

That's what I'm guessing.

Criss-crossed the top of the run with wire at various heights. Dangling CDs, flags, scare crow. Radio playing. I was out until dark, I'll be up before daylight.

I am figuring on netting the entire top as soon as time allows.

If owl it will likely be back tonight at almost exactly same time as last visit. If practical sleep so you can hear chickens. Be ready with flashlight and broom. I would not hesitate to push owl out with broom. If raccoon then get trap or even prepare to shoot it. The CD think I do not see as effective against owls and they are more likely to pick their way through tight places.

If mink get birds to roost higher and get the bugger with a trap.

Wow!

Where do you live your post is timed 2 hours ago, and it's 5:30 pm here so you are 4 hours a head of me.

To my knowledge, yes, owls fly in daylight.

No tracks and whatever did the deed didn't hit the charged wires. Speculation says whatever it was flew in. Or walked straight up, didn't investigate, didn't sniff, just leaped over a 6' wire fence.

Thanks for the info! I've only been in chickens 1.5 years and I started losing them as soon as I put the buffet out--LOL! I'm impressed with your record. I've heard crows chase owls off and recently I've seen crows in/on the chicken fence waiting for the scraps the hens don't eat so maybe that's why I haven't seen/heard any owls lately. GL on top-fencing your run. And I'm in Magnolia Texas -- north of Houston.

We are in the same time zone. I'm 15 miles sout of Baton Rouge.

No attacks last night. I was up about every two hours, grab my qbeam and sweep it across the chicken yards.
I noticed something very interesting about the CDs. Turning in the breeze they reflected the light from the security light I have out by the barn. As they rotated the reflections resembled two glowing eyes. I don't see that as particularly helpfull against owls. But four leggers might not like it. Along with the radio playing, together it may deter predators much more than I anticipated.
