6mon Barred Rock - Still no eggs

Attached are both my BRs. They’re roosting right now so I can’t tell which one is the one laying. The only way I can tell is because she’s the only BR that squats.

They should be on the verge of laying have they started squatting?

The one that is squatting is already laying. The other is not squatting and not laying.

Not squatting doesn't mean she is not laying. Do they free range? Have you checked around your yard for hidden nests? Have you done a Butt Check? How many laying hens do you have in your flock?

They free range for the most part. No secret nest that we’ve found. Didn’t know about the butt check, can try tomorrow. We only have 3 chicks. The two that we know lay, lay in the nesting boxes in the coop.

I'm willing to bet the back one in your first photo is your layer. She's a touch redder. I have 4 Barred Rocks. All 6.5 months old. 2 out of the 4 are laying but they are all bright red, squatting, checking out nest boxes. My 2 cents? There's nothing wrong with your girl. They just mature at different rates, just like humans go through puberty at different ages.

I am having a similar issue with my deathlayers who are probably 8 months old. They do not squat, don’t do any egg songs, etc. What are you looking for with a butt check and how is it done?

Not all chickens will squat and not all will sing the egg song so that's not foolproof. Logar gave you a good link to try! I've never attempted because I have a trail cam facing my nest boxes so I can verify who is laying.

I have 3 chickens - all 6mon old.
My RIR and other Barred Rock have laid daily since 4mon. This Barred Rock hasn’t laid an egg yet. Any ideas why?

Hi! This is fairly normal. Some chickens take up to a year to start laying. Although it could be a problem I doubt it.
