Thank you for the welcomeHiya, Helen, and welcome to BYC!
I raise and breed silkies, and oh how I wish you were in the states as I'd be asking to buy hatching eggs from you! Stunning!
I'm sorry for your losses. Maybe the parents didn't have good nutrition and/or good genes.Thank you for the welcome
Silkies are seriously beautiful to me, I just hatched some for the first time ever. Tho, I found them a bit delicate in the early days since some were lethargic.
I think that the next time I will be getting silkies I will get already hatched, 5 days old, grow them by myself and then collect my own silkie eggs to hatch them.
From 10 silkie eggs, 5 eggs hatched (from the rest 5, 3 were unfertilised, 1 got killed by other hatched chick by pinching the egg too early and yolk went out and 1 died after peeping). From 5 hatched, 2 are well, 1 passed away and 2 more are in my living room on rehabilitation with cat plushie toy xD - one of them has 6 toes on one leg).
Still even with this odd experience, I would hatch them again.![]()
Most probably. I gathered eggs from village. But hey, I am here to learn something new every day.I'm sorry for your losses. Maybe the parents didn't have good nutrition and/or good genes.
