Hello

I need a list of acidic food or drink to give my chick.
(He has ate a pin and that metal is thin)
I am hoping to raise the acidity level of his stomach so it helps to loosen the pin if not break it on half.

I hear apple cider vinegar is good to feed. It is slightly acidic and could help him a lot.

My chick is doing fine. I am feeding him and giving him water plus medication. He is my life so i camt bear to give up on him especially if he hasnt given up yet!

My husband's cousin ate a pin when he was young, and the doctor got him to eat "Sauerkraut" - pickled cabbage. The idea was that the cabbage would wrap itself around the pin, and protect his insides! He's fine now... 40 years on! I don't know whether the cabbage really helped, or whether you could get your chick to eat anything like that?

Thanks for the tip.
I will have a go. Might do something.

The average pH of a gizzard is around 3. The pH of most "acidic" citrus is around the same, maybe a little more acidic for lemon and lime. As with humans, there is not much you can do to change the pH of a digestive system for any length of time. The body regulates things for a reason....yeah you can spike things temporarily, but you aren't going to be feeding your chick a constant flow of lemons and limes to dissolve the metal.
