Additional ventilation needed? Brand new to this.

That's my point. Every manufactured coop I've seen has more nests than the number of birds it will reasonably hold. They could take some of the money it cost to make the nests and make the coop bigger.

In the tech world, that's called "feature bloat". It's not meant to be practical, but to wow the consumer (who doesn't know any better) and to justify jacking up the price.

He's just being honest...prefabs have many drawbacks. Many folks that buy these end up building a much bigger coop and use the prefab as a grow out, isolation, broody coop. At least you didn't pay for it.

The nice thing about opening up the coop wall that is under the roof, is that the roof will keep rain and snow out of the opening.

Also, the overhang should keep blasting wind out as well.

You could always keep the wall parts that you pop off and use those as covers if it gets too drafty.

Definitely open up the coop wall under the roof.

They will be so much healthier with the fresh air.

Thank you! I absolutely appreciate the honest and all the feedback. I know I have A LOT to learn and I'm looking forward to it. It was a little disheartening though . I knew it wouldn't be perfect but I didn't expect it to be that imperfect!

It's disheartening to have to point it out over and over and over and over...it's a very common problem.

I have this same coop. I think the ventilation is ok. The coop was originally around $800. However, the thing that was disappointing most of all is that the wood is chinsy. You can shut the sliding doors over the screened windows on the top, when it gets cold.
