Hi, this morning one of my Easter Egger chicks hatched, it took much longer than the others. It’s still very wet, hasn’t stood up and still had some yolk attached. It looks like it’s covered in slime and very weak, I don’t know if there’s anything I can do to help it? Should I remove from incubator or leave in there? It’s like the slimy stuff is drying onto it so it hasn’t fluffed up! Tia

Leave it in the bator, a picture would be great. It is possible that it will still absorb the yolk. If it was my chick I would let it go for a bit. How long has it been out of the shell?

Are you able to take a picture? If it's the yolk sac and not egg waste you'll want to try to keep the chick from moving so it will hopefully finish absorbing the yolk. I like to use a mug because they're heavy and the chick can't topple them over. I put the baby in the mug with it's bum in it's shell and cushioned with dry toilet paper around it so it doesn't wiggle free.

It looks revolting! But it’s still alive and looks like it has absorbed the yolk, but still it doesn’t look good 😩

Aww, poor sweetie! You'll definitely want to keep it on it's tummy. It's not good for them to be on their backs for long periods of time. It does look bad but if it absorbed the yolk sac I think it may still has a chance if you're wanting to wait. It looks like it must have been a very sticky chick. Once it has recovered you can clean it so that it can fluff up properly. I've had a friend that had to do this. When humidity is really high through the early days of incubation it can cause what's called sticky chicks.

So, I couldn’t watch it die, removed chick, basically had to give it a bath. The side it had been laying on had a piece of shell stuck in its thigh making it bleed - have removed, and it’s right wing stuck to its head 😢 is now on top of the Aga drying off and has had a drop of nutri drops just to give a boost... fingers crossed 🤞 but it’s stood up and chirping so I hope that’s a good sign
