Starting a thread for my chicken coops out at my uncle's farm. We have 2 coops out there, a small woods style coop (8x16') we refer to as "the big coop," and a small (3x5'?) elevated coop in need of repair (gotta give her a break, she's 15 years old and never had any repair work).Right now we're replacing the fencing, so the chickens are confined to the coop.

The surviving chicks from our toMAYto toMAHto hatchalong have been out there since March. This weekend we moved the 32 buckeye chicks and the older two malines out to the farm. And today we took down the barrier. It wasn't doing any good anyway, both easter egger pullets can get over it by jumping up onto the elevated roost, and for some reason the malines both decided to jump the fence and spend the night with the pullets :barnie We did set up a clutter course to break up line of sight with some sawhorses and scrap plywood.

Chickens everywhere! I can't wait for when we get the fence up and the door installed so these babies can get some outside time. I should also probably set up a grow out pen for the cockerels. Of course that means I have to figure out which ones are boys.

Ran out to the farm to check on the coop after the severe weather this afternoon and I was once again struck by how in your face Buckeyes are. As soon as we opened the door they were right there, stepping on our toes! And they're pretty solid little guys, about halfway to the size of the 20 week old pullets. The 10 week old malines are actually bigger than the 20 week old pullets!

Believe it or not, the buckeye chicks will be 9 weeks old on Sunday and these malines will be 11 weeks old on Tuesday.

The easter egger pullet here will be 21 weeks on Tuesday!
