I started raising chickens about three years ago. I started with two Rhode Island Red hens and two Silkie hens. All four were given to me. The silkies they thought were roosters but, to my surprise and delight they were hens.
My flock has grown from there now I have close to 100 total. Most of them I have named but not all. I really enjoy being with them and just watching them sometimes for hours. I don't know what I would do without them now. They are like my children.
Unfortunately I lost all my silkie hens to a fox a couple years ago but, I still have some of there offspring all roosters. They may be small but, they do love their big girls. They have produced some beautiful offspring with them. So far all I have gotten has been roosters. They are larger than the silkie rooster but look a lot like them. I have hatched several this year that are a cross from the original silkie roosters and big hens. I'm still waiting to see if they are going to be pullets or cockerels. I am hoping to get some pullets this year.
