I’m a reptile owner (chicken math happens with reptiles too and idk how many I have) and I’ve talked with people in this FB group about how when I catch house geckos that I feed them to my chickens and people agree because they’re invasive and good protein, but this person took it personal so am I in the wrong??? Didn’t mean to hurt their feelings or come off as a troll 8A2C2991-3D30-4B8E-ABEA-F049A94EA52E.jpeg 827DFE49-62DF-4686-810F-7505817B412C.jpeg 6DE08840-7A59-4B60-BC92-C21F8A17989D.jpeg

The person doesn't agree with you and that is fine. If they don't like what you are doing they could have moved on/ignored. They chose to argue.
Don't keep responding.

great advice. Arguing with someone not even willing to listen to the other side is completely pointless. Idiots will be idiots I guess :idunno

Not saying that disagreeing with someone makes you an idiot. I just classify an idiot as someone who is unwilling to even think about what the other side of the conversation/argument is. If they had said "I see where you are coming from but as this is a reptile forum could you please not talk about it as it makes me uncomfortable" then that is a completely different story.

The OP was posting about finding a gecko. The exclamation point and XD indicates OP views this favorably and is excited to see a favorite animal. It's kind of like responding to a picture of a neighborhood stray kitten with a comment about feeding kittens (baby) to snakes. It kind of has the same tone as saying "it's just a dog," instead of "sorry for your loss," when someone cries because their pet died. It's not so much "wrong" as "kind of insensitive/tone deaf" I can see why OP would be offended.

Cats are too feisty to make good snake food. they would probably hurt the snake very badly. and plus most people don't have a retic, burm, african rock python, etc laying around to feed it to. And it being a stray it wouldn't be very safe to feed even if you did euthanize it beforehand. But if you could it would be smart as cats are so horrible for the environment.

And yes I know exactly what you meant with your post and I took it the complete opposite direction

If someone on BYC posted a picture of their baby chicks and another person responded, "I call those snake snacks", I'm sure many people would be upset by it. Neither opinion is wrong or bad per say, but one really isn't appropriate for the particular setting and audience. It will just be a cause for contention that likely won't be resolved in a civil manner. OP was just trying to show off something that makes them happy to a group that shares a similar passion, and you were a bit insensitive about it. Of course, they could have ignored your comment instead of starting an argument, but they decided to take offense and argue anyways.

I get it but then there’s people like me who are on both communities and both sides (which being a part of the chicken community makes me immune to the dog and cat stuff because the only ones I care about are mine because I see their true nature and also habitat destruction) and I would have laughed because I tell quail hatchers all the time that they can send any deformed chicks to me and I’ll feed them to Yoshi (bearded dragon) but I do get what you’re saying
