Nova is a 10 week old Ameraucana. I've been debating whether or not she's a hen. She doesn't act like the other rooster her age, so I'm very confused! Thanks.

Jus curious, but why a rooster? Our other one is the same age and his comb is twice as big, so is his tail. Also the other rooster is very interested in our cochin hens, while he isn't. Thanks

I"m thinking your other rooster is a straight combed breed? IF so, that's the difference in the combs. Pea combs will never be as large as straight combs, but that large a comb and that much red in it at only 10weeks is all male. Tail, same thing...some breeds don't have the same shape tail. Even in the same breed, different birds develop at different rates.

But the real kicker is the color. Those patches of red on the wing makes it easy to spot a male.

Those very dark red markings on the wings on mostly white Easter Eggers are usually an indication that the bird is a rooster.
Females can have some leakage on the wings but it is usually cream, not dark red.
