I have 2 pairs of american buff geese 8 months old. When do you think they will start laying? Do they need water (water pool) to mate? Also, one of my ganders is limping. After looking at his foot I noticed that his middle toe is swollen, there is no cuts or puncture wounds, or signs of pain when pressure appllied. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks for the Info.

We also have to pairs of Buffs that are about 8 months old. Ours are from Metzers.

We certainly hope that they are laying by spring.

As far as the limp, probably a case of bumble foot.

Good luck.............

They will lay in the spring, may or may not be fertile. My A. Buffs are clumsy and trip over everything instead of walking around it, one is always limping. they usually get over it in a couple of days. Mine have a kiddie pool but I'v never seen them breed so I don't know if they need it or not.

We LOVE American Buff, the ganders get really friendly. They are also great adoptive parents, mine raise some of the goslings we hatch out of the incubator right along with theirs. You cant go wrong with a pair of those!

My American Buffs are laying now or at least one of them is laying. Found 4 eggs today in thier nest covered over with straw.Debating to bring 3 inside and leave 1 in nest .The one I leave in nest I will mark so I will know it is the oldest and keep collecting the other eggs.Suppose to get down to 27 degrees tonight or should i just leave them to see if she will sit on them.May or may not be fertile.Might save some for incubater any ideals.
