Help! I got an Ancona female a couple weeks ago and just noticed today she has bumblefoot, so I am treating and she is in a dog kennel on dry straw inside the duck run. I’ve noticed since I’ve got her that the white of her eyes are yellow. Is this normal with this breed? She still acts the same as when I got her so she hasn’t changed in behavior. Also her bill was extremely hot when I brought her inside to soak and treat her feet compared to my other ducks whose bills were cool. Could she have a fever? Should I do a round of antibiotics? I can get some pics of her tomorrow when I do her bumble treatment.

This is my first Ancona so I just wasn’t sure on the yellowing of the eyes.

Yeah, I would say post some pictures and that will help a lot. My ducks don't have a white part to their eye - it's all dark black or brown, so I can't help you there. I don't know on the bill - I have wondered that myself. I think it might be the duck just trying to cool itself down, or it could mean infection, but if she's acting normally I wouldn't worry too much. If the bumblefoot is bad however, maybe it's from that and antibiotics might help. You can post pictures tomorrow and see what others think.

Thank you. I’ll get some pics tomorrow. I had her in a small dog crate all day and I just went out and out fresh straw down in all their beds and drained both pools so she can’t get in water and let her out into the 10x10 area the other ducks are in. I feel bad isolating her all night. I’m sure the bandages with be off by morning. Do you think she needs to stay isolated for several days 24/7 or is what I’m doing ok? I will be changing her bandages and doing epsom soaks and treatment everyday.

I have never isolated my ducks when they had bumble. I just kept their foot bandaged when the wound was open, and didn't let them swim. Then I let it scab over, gave them a swim, and then if I had to work on it again I would bandage and keep them out of the pool again. It sounds like you're on top of it!

Here is a picture of her eye. Also another pic of these cute little ones I got today :)

How long has her eye been like that? It isn't the white, it's actually the third 'eyelid'. Humans used to have one but it's been reduced to that weird little pink bump at the inside of our eye.

Babies are adorable? Khaki Campbells? I just got two last week, to keep my Welsh Harlequin orphan company.

You might use a little Terramycin a couple times a day. My Pekin has had a droopy eyelid on a couple of occasions and I believe it was the start of an infection. I can't remember how long I used the Terramycin, but maybe 4-7 days. It brought the eyelid back to its normal position.

It’s been like that since I got her about a month ago. I believe they are khakis :)
