Here is our rare and exotic I am thinking it may be a Golden Polish but have never actually seen a Golden Polish chick or any other crested for that matter. Any input is very appreciated.

So is there any chance you know if they do well in harsh winters? In the upper peninsula of Michigan we have LONG COLD winters so I am hoping it will fair okay

It's definitely a Polish Top Hat.
You can rule out the other birds with the head pouf due to the number of toes and the clean shanks.
I would say the coloring does look like it's golden, but I don't know for sure.
I recently just hatched a barnyard mix of eggs and one of mine was a white crested black polish.
They're cute little things!

MIne did not do well at all in the winter. Becuase they get an afro and it covers there eyes. One night mine were out in the run and couldn't see to find there way to get back in because of the afro and froze because they stayed inside. It was my fault, I should of trimmed there feathers so that they could see, but I was going to show them and didnt want to screw up their feathers. Also some of the hatheries when describing the breed say wether or not they are cold hardy and my pet chicken says that they are not cold hardy.

So, all my chickens free range and primarily self coop then I just do the head count and lock them up at dusk only occasionally have to get one or two out of the trees to save them from the raccoons. I assume from what you tell me that I either need to find this one a more suitable home or make some alterations to my coop to keep him from an early death.

Yes, but I dont know how warm your coop gets. If you make sure that it is the coop it should be okay, maybe if you put a heat lamp in your coop it would help.

I tend to baby my birds the heat lamp is always on in the winter unless it is unseasonable warm but I keep the chicken door open with a wind block so they have the freedom to get some fresh air if they wish. The ducks are always out no matter what the weather but the chickens usually come out for a short walk and dance their feet with their cold feet on the snow and back in they go and this repeats all day. Usually the snow is so deep they don't go far from the coop

So as for trimming the feathers is there anything I should know that is something I never thought I would have to ask about my chickens.
