Yes. I haven't figured it out enough to really draw them without one.

Okay. Was just asking because your perspective us off. Try and figure out the basic shapes that make the image, then slowly build up the detail. Because no matter how great the detail is if your perspective is off the whole drawing will be off.

Drew Cupcake, my brahma.

This is kind of my process.
1. Choose a photo. Crop it to a square shape, then add grid lines. I do 6 squares on each side.
2. On the paper, draw a large (12” for me) square. Add grid lines.

3. Draw the basic outline using the reference photo.

4. Generally, I start at the upper left corner to prevent my hand smearing it.

5. Working one to a few squares at a time, work your way through. I draw, blend, then add extra details after every few squares.

The only way I can decently reproduce from a ref image is by gridding. I'm OK at it, but I don't do it a whole lot.
