this is how i often feel while developing stories/characters

for some reason I only feel like developing the characters when most of me feels sad-

Part of me: Hey we should make this character's parents leave her

Me: No, bad me. Why?

Part of me: Because

Me: Okay, yeah, makes sense

I like doing animals more than people and i dont know when to stop though so mine happens more like,

Part of me: Lets have his mom die

Me: okay? i can work with that.

Part of me: And his brother.

Me: fine

Part of me: And make it be HIS fault!

Me: i dont knnoowwww...

Part of me: Its gonna be great!

Me: Ok sure!

Part of me: Now center the entire thing around his grief and regret and continuosly torment him with guilt.

I have a homeless orphan character with no surviving family members (don’t worry he finds happiness in the end but things get so much worse before they get better)

I have a similar issue, sometimes. I draw really good things either in class, or at the worst of late hours.

Agreed! The majority of my characters have parents and family members that are alive, and boy there’s so many ways to shake things up

I also just love when characters have a stable family/family members they can find comfort with, tbh. I have a lot of those! There will still be conflict within them, but I love seeing characters with happy families and/or supportive parents
