Any Embroidery Experts?

Hey y’all! On my birthday a week and a half ago, My sweet blessing Momma bought me an embroidery machine!!!
I only recently started sewing- and simple things at that, aprons, pillows, etc… within the last 2 years, and she wanted me to try embroidery! Novice is and understatement, but eager to learn is, too! I’m VERY excited to try it, and wondered if anyone out there has done it themselves, and had any tips, tricks, or helpful hints they would like to share! Or maybe a funny story of a sewing/embroidery project gone wrong, so I don’t feel so bad about all of my mistakes!
 
I have dabbled in it. My number one tip, follow the instructions. If you don’t you could end up with something like this disaster of an owl :

Oh my goodness, that’s not a disaster!! I feel quite certain my first project is liable to go awry! I’m praying not, and remain hopeful though!! Thank you for sharing!!
I am clueless with using the hoops, too!! Any tips for the crazy hoops?
