Evening from the UK!
I have 2 Carolina wood duck females that have escaped this evening. They have an outdoor cage where they have to be caught and carried to an indoor cage every evening and are relatively tame for the breed. They had been in their cage when the first lot of ducks were shut in and then about 20 minutes later when we went to get them, they were gone with their side gate open. They had either pushed it open as they jump at the side of the cage when it starts getting dark or someone had accidently left it open.
We are fairly distraught as you can imagine. It's dark and we have searched most trees and hedges round the garden to no success.
Have I any chance of finding them as I'm not sure if they would fly away in the dark. Please anyone with knowledge about their behaviour comment!!

Hi, I'm sorry about your ducks! I raise them among many others, and since they're tame it's quite possible they'll come back. Their sense of direction is superb. But, I'd put out some corn or something easily recognizable in a bright colored dish in your yard. Most ducks can't resist corn. Besides that just watch for them frequently. You could also check with neighbors and any nearby bodies of water. Even swimming pools and stuff can attract them. I hope they come back! If they don't after a few days the chances are probably going to be a lot lower. Please let us know if they make it home!

Thanks for the tips!
Will put out corn and mealworms - their favourite treats!
Thank you MGG for your advice and reassurance.
Would they have flown far in the dark or do you think they would stick fairly close by?
