Hello - I have three ducklings that I hatched to fill out my mallard flock. One of my Chinese geese has been broody but not successful in hatching. I’m going to have to break her from her nest soon I think. My other Chinese goose and her gander have 4 goslings now and I’m feeling bad for my want-to-be mother. This is her second go at it this year. Has anyone had luck getting their goose to adopt ducklings? Any tips on how to introduce and get them to pair up? Just want to make my sweet mamma goose happy - she’s a few years old and hasn’t had luck but seems determined! Thanks in advance!

I asked Google if a goose could raise ducklings.

Goose and Fig said: My geese raise ducks. ... You can, and sometimes geese can successfully incubate and raise ducklings. Other times especially if the goose is large, heavy, and clumsy she may crush the duck eggs.Aug 10, 2013

Geese are pretty intelligent. If it were me I'd put the ducklings and clean egg shells under the goose at night and at the same time remove the eggs she is brooding.

Check her at first light to be sure she has accepted the ducklings and them her.

I put some ducklings in a stall and a gander hung out just outside the stall so I let him adopt them after a week or so. Before that he followed me everywhere so I was glad to not have him underfoot all the time. And then when I got 2 goslings I had him switch to them. Really simple. He’s great with them. My goose isn’t displaying the same behavior. Not sure if she would or wouldn’t. I believe the gander is 1.

It is definitely possible, but just watch out. I know Canada geese can kill mallards, it might be the same way with other geese, am not sure.
