My Male Goose died suddenly. What to do with his mate? They were my only two geese.

My Luz Goose died suddenly from what I believe was cane toad poisoning or snake bit. (We are in Panama. These things happen.) I am heartbroken. He was 9-years old and I raised him since he was just a few days old. We bonded / imprinted.

Now there is only Tabitha Goose. She is sitting on an egg (it's been quite a long time, so I'm not sure it's viable, but I am scared to take it away... in case it is, or especially now) ... So she hasn't moved much off her next. Luz Goose (her mate) died next to her. I found him this morning.

I question if I should re-home Tabitha? I know of a private residence / private "bird sanctuary" that could possibly take her. I do not want to get another male goose, and I don't think it would be good for her to be alone.

I also don't know what to do... this all happened so suddenly... I don't want to make the wrong choice... Tabitha Goose must be greiving too... and I don't want to also "kick her out" of the home she has known for the past seven years. She isn't bonded / imprinted to me, like Luz was though. So I want to do what is best for her.

Any suggestions???

(I do have a single, female duck, I kept them separate because the two geese attacked the duck. So not thinking the duck and female goose will want to hang out together. ?)

RIP my Lucy Goose :-(

I’m so sorry!

How long would you say she’s been sitting on the egg? Have you candled it?

You could let her sit on it a little longer and see if it does hatch. If she doesn’t like the duck she could bond with it over time but it’s no guarantee.

It would be best for her to have another goose friend so if she doesn’t end up hatching a gosling it probably would be best to rehome her.

Thank you for your response. I've been away from the computer and grieving. (I never loved a goose before!)

I found a new home for the female... it's a wonderful place, and she fit right in.
