Got this chicken from a local farm as a 3-day old barred rock hen, but based on comments it looks like they're mixed breed and a rooster? Anybody have any ideas as to which breeds this olive egger might be from?

Maybe influences from barred rock and or legbar, hard to know without possible parents :'( crest could be due to silkie or polish genes a few gens back, it's hard to know for sure, it is a very pretty barring pattern though, congrats! :D

Cream Legbar (blue eggs, crest on head) with Cuckoo Marans (dark brown eggs, black with white barring)

It's a common cross to get Olive Eggers. There exist other crosses that could produce a chicken who looks that way, but I think Legbar x Marans is most likely.

Thanks! He is very pretty and we were hoping he'd be a hen but after hearing the crowing and seeing development it's just not the case. Would love to keep him but not allowed to have roosters in the city ):

Oops didn't even realize you already knew it was an OE.

He is handsome.
Sorry you can't keep him. Do you know of anyone who might take him off your hands?

We've been asking around and thinking about calling the farm we got him from to see if they would take him back, but no luck so far. Will be sad to see him go and don't want to give him away if it's going to be for slaughter.
