My Dad used Chantix. It was the only thing that ever worked when he tried to quit smoking. He has been smoke free for about a year and half now. He unfortunately did have the terrible side effect of suicidal thoughts. We were very worried about him and didn't realize at the time this was the cause. He ended up stopping the course of Chantix before it was finished, but was able to stay smoke free!
hubby tried chantrix but it didn't work.. what worked was the patch AND an antidepressant to combat the withdrawals. he was a 3 pack a day man and his doctor helped him quit. he took the patch steps longer than they say. he didn't rush it..
I quit smoking 15 years ago and i stuggled with it until i brain washed myself. I would actually go buy a pack right before the store would close at midnight and would smoke on the way home. I would get so upset with myself that i would throw the pack out the window and then later, early in the morning try and go find where i threw the pack out !! Now thats bad!!
I finally told myself....They do not sell tobacco in the USA anymore. I quit going to the little store where i bought them each morning. I also looked up horrible pictures of lung cancer and throat cancer and would read about the horrors of smoking. After 2 weeks I just didnt seem to want them anymore. Its been 15 years now and if someone walks by me that smokes i almost gag. It stinks so bad.
Nothing looks worse than a female sucking on a fag.
Who wants to kiss a guy with smoke on his breath?
I am an EXTREME anti smoking advocate(let me say right away I can understand, tho, how hard it would be to quit from the studies I have heard) and my Mom quit 5 years ago after 50 tears of smoking heavy because her 2 non smoking daughters wanted to avoid being anywhere near her. It sounds hard but I can smell a smoker, literally, from 10 feet away(and they're not smoking) and it makes me want to vomit. Mom quit using one of the common patches and her VERY strong will. my point IS- you CAN quit if you truly understand how gross it is to non-smokers(they will tell you that they can't tell but it is SUCH a lie) and not to mention the current cost. I knew a man that had taken the chantrix and had the nightmares, etc but he was pretty mentally unstable to begin with.
I have never smoked and my husband doesn't smoke either. I wish they would make cigs illegal because it just kills people and ruins their health IMO....I want to wish all of you who are trying to quit the VERY BEST OF LUCK. Sending good quitting vibes and prayers your way! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't give up on a healthier you!!!!
This is a good thread to read.
I need to quit. Duh.
Even aside from the horrible health consequences, the price is crazy.
Here in Seattle, WA cigarettes cost between $5 and $7 a pack, depending on the brand. So...I spend $6 a day for something that will kill me?! What a dope!

You should try this champix or chantix. Its great It works on your brain to block the nicotine receptors and for me it is working wonders, I've smoked since I was 16 (silly teenager) an am now 35 I was never a heavy smoker, I smoked about 15 a day or if I was having a drink or at a party way more. I started taking the tablets 20 days ago, you can still smoke for the first 2 weeks on them and I gradually cut down over the 2 weeks to 2 a day and then on day 14 I gave up and its now day 20 I feel fine I don't crave a smoke at all and am not finding it hard to be near another smoker. I am really amazed. I have tried cold turkey before lol and nearly ripped the kids heads off but these tablets take away all the addiction. I recommend it to anyone who wants to give up unless your mentally unstable

I wish they'd make them illegal too, so the next generation don't start this bad habit. But the gooverment won't ban it because of all the tax they make of them. A packet of 20's over here is $8.50 and a pack of 40's is $15.00 and they go up in price every few months.
I take Chantix...it is the only thing that I have ever found that works!!! The devil plays with your mind though..he wants you to go buy a cigar or cigarettes and only take "one" puff.....I always said that if there was a pill out there that would make me not think of smoking I would take it and I found it with Chantix.///Insurance would not pay anything on it! But if I wanted some kind of pain pills, those are covered on my insurance..go figure that!! The only side effect that I have had is VERY vivid dreams....small price to pay...It has been 37 days since I smoked!!!! YEAH!!!!!!
