I thought I'd post something about eating right. This was taken from slim-fast.com Hopefully it's helpful for someone.

Sometimes you eat without thinking much about it, right? And the next thing you know, the whole bag of popcorn is gone, or you've eaten three pieces of bread instead of one. It's easier to take control when you know exactly what you're consuming. You'll want to focus on essential information such as serving size, calories and nutritional content.

Decoding Food Labels

1.First check the serving size, and then the number of calories per serving. You'll put on pounds if you consume more calories than you need! Knowing how many servings the product contains is key to avoid overeating.
2.Select products that contain dietary fiber, the non-digestible carbohydrate that is loaded with health benefits. You’ll stay satisfied longer-perfect for your pound-shedding efforts.
3.The total fat in a product includes saturated fat, trans fat, polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fat. You should limit saturated fat and trans fat in your diet, as they have been linked to cardiovascular disease. Try not to get more than 10% of your total daily calories from saturated fat and keep total fat to about 30%.
4.Check out total carbohydrates, and keep in mind that all carbohydrates-except for fiber-break down into simple sugars.Sugars include both naturally occurring and added sugars. Naturally occurring sugars include lactose (found in milk and dairy products and fructose and sucrose (found in fruits and vegetables).Try to limit your intake of foods with added sugars-like soft drinks and candy-in favor of more nutrient-dense foods.
5.Percentages are everywhere on food labels. They represent how much of each nutrient is provided in one serving of the product (percent Daily Value) as part of a 2,000-calorie diet.

For more information about food labels from the Food and Drug Administration or the USDA, go to www.fda.gov or www.usda.gov.

Hey eggcetra,

You mentioned on an earlier post about a Slim Fast chart?

Where you fill in all the food you are going to eat I think it helps in tallying up the amount of calories you will be eating..

Where did you find that?

I'm game for this also. I broke my ankle badly June 06, I am getting around better but am still using a cane. I have been putting off starting to exercise again. DH and I were on the no flour, no sugar diet a couple of years ago, he lost 30lbs, I lost 10. We stopped that when we started remodeling/selling/relocating.

Stats

150
5'1"(DH loves to remind me that I am 5'1/2")

want to lose 30-40lbs.

Right now I CAN walk our property(5acs), stationary bike(still haven't tried to get on my mt. bike, yoga ball, floor excercises, house work, yard work

What I am doing: house work, yard work

wooden_pony it's nice to find someone akin to me. I also eat a large meal in the morning and hardly anything else until dinner. And I usually don't eat breakfast type foods. Sandwiches, burritos etc.

I will check out the sites that have been suggested.

I think this is just what I needed , thanks

I actually have someone who does not think I am crazy eating sandwiches for breakfast!!!

Nobody on here said that but my friend look at me like I am a fruit cake when I am eating a sandwich or burrito for breakfast.

I just had two shoulder operations (Oct. and Feb.) so I am a bit worried about starting up my workout as well. When you have screws and wires drilled into bones it tends to be a bit stressful.

I am glad NOSPRINGCHIC thought of this!!!

Just for the record, I think the perfect breakfast food is leftover lasagna. But today

1/2 cup raw oatmeal with milk and a little brown sugar
2 cups of coffee
1/4 raisins
a handful of little carrots
1/2 cup raw sugar snaps
microwave diet dinner
1 slice warm from the oven bread with butter ( couldn't resist)
about 2 cups oriental style noodles with meatballs
lots of water

no exercise today.

I really crave salty foods (like I could salt my potato chips) so I think I did ok

So, I was pretty good today, except my exercise routine. No chickens to chase.

I ate: 1 cookie (180 calories)
1 cup of keifer (160 calories)
3/4 egg salad sandwich (450 calories)
1 stick of cheese 80 calories
1 cup tomato-beef stir fry (YUM!) 800 calories. (mostly veggies)

Exercise: I stripped four stalls. And lifted some feed bags down to the barn.
