Are ducks ever NOT hungry?

My flock of 18 water fowl and 18 chickens of various breeds go through almost 100lbs a month in feed.

As far as how many ducks each one has is a personal decision. If you have the room and the money to feed them and care for them properly then by all means keep as many as you want. :):thumbsup Ducks are awesome!

Really? Only 100 lbs a month? I’ve been keeping my chicken feed apart from duck, due to different barns and molt/winter, etc. I have 19 chickens and a rooster, nothing huge. My BR rooster is by far biggest. They eat way more than 50 lbs. I don’t keep track. I just refill the bins and they hold 50 lbs. I talked to my hubby about taking in the feed at night due to rats. He said then we’ll have rats in the barn...I’d rather lose feed. But, it’s just turning cold and I’m pretty sure the chickens have always gone through this much. Clearly I need to keep records. I know I refill the feeders every three days. They are on an 16% crumbles now. Just changed. It was 18%.

You take the water away at night? I have large under-the-bed tubs that my hubby made these partial wood covers for the middle. They slide on and off. This way they can dunk their heads to clean themselves without making a huge mess.

I’ve looked into All Flock, and bought some for a few weeks. They didn’t seem to eat less and I was spending a lot more money with 43 ducks. I never want to downsize, but they are expensive. My husband thinks they are greedy and prefers chickens because of this reason:(

I reminded him that our dogs never turn down a treat. :)

I feel like my ducks eat significantly more than my chickens. Some of the chickens come to eat the ducks food, but it is still way more. Only one of the ducks is currently laying....

Yep..Great Birds till something goes wrong..:frow

My flock is def eating more now that foraging is at minimum. My ducks do eat more than my chickens do probably even more than my geese but my Runners use a lot more calories and energy going up an down the hill in their fenced in area is probably the reason. No feed or water inside. If you take up feed and water keep you feeders inside totes with lids to keep the mice. And rats out.
