Are feral chickens ok to eat?

There are feral chickens near my house that live completely on their own they've been there for years I've captured a few hens and they just are now laying their eggs are small but great tasting I had one rooster that I caught with them but he attacked one of my other hens so I killed him and ate hum a week ago the chickens are loud cause there are like 20 rooster and 5 hens I think the hens are having a hard life so I thought since I already ate one I should kill some others and make the hens lives easier and eat them . The one I ate before I had kept it for like 3 months but I'm wondering if they are safe to eat and what should I look for if not

What sparked this was I saw all the roosters trying to mount one hens and she was squaking and trying her best to get away I've caught 3 roosters this morning and now I'm wondering if they are safe

I cant think of a better reason to eat them then to save some hens.

do those hens a favor and eat those boys!
unless they physically look sick I would go for it. You seem ok after eating the last one.
It'll be my fault if you get sick

Where do you live that there are all these feral chickens? Can you post pics?

People hunt and eat feral ducks, wild turkey, geese, pheasant, quail, etc. I would not worry about eating feral chickens.

They were once caged and token care of but a few years ago the person who took care of them stop feeding and taking care of them and just let them loose and now the are where he lived has a lot of them I made sure to ask before I took still tho

They all look healthy too I will clean them later today I live in NC

I would absolutely take over that flock and manage it. Management includes removal of problem birds. Extra roosters are problem birds. The greater the problem, the tastier he is.
