Arizona Chickens

That's what they came up with? That name makes me shudder.
Probably so others wanting those chick's would never know the difference because the name wouldn't sound bad to them.

I will keep my boys and either charge extra for them as breeders, or they can become food for us and our animals.

Hmmm... from the article, I was trying to figure out how far along the eggs are before they can determine sex. Are they able to determine it early enough to have the male eggs be sold as eggs?
I have no idea about that. I just happened to come across that article on my cell phone when I checked it to see what news was new for the day.

Edited to add... can you imagine people that try to incubate the store bought eggs at home hatching out 100% boy's?

Any AZ chicken people out there? I am looking for some advice on raising chicks in the desert. I'm in Mesa. Does it get too hot out here? I have four 20 day old chicks, 3 Buff Orps and 1 leghorn. Do we need to do anything special here
Hi, what are you needing advice wise for raising chicks in the desert? I am in AZ.

Does anyone here hatch their own chicks, or do you get them from a hatchery or feed barn? I want to get another chick since one of mine died last night. It was really sad, I found her trapped under a small piece of plywood I had used to close off the pen at night. I think my kids had moved it and she somehow knocked it onto herself. So sad!
I got a fertilized egg from a neighbor as I had a broody hen. The chick has hatched and I think she is a pullet at 8 weeks now. This was a great way to hatch one and mom does all the work.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/arkansas-folks-speak-up.37675/page-1102

It is not very active,, but there may be peeps that read new postings.

BTW. I like cayotes. but I also like my pet chickens. Best option is a secure coop, and run.
We do have some in the neighborhood, but there are few, so not a problem. My concern is also my pet feral rescue cats. So far, did not loose any yet. Cats do have a safe place to escape to need be.
