In my opinion, yes, but I would worry about the, eating the fake grass.

I'm sure they can walk on it but how would you keep it clean, chicken poo dries hard like concrete. And they like to scratch around in dirt and dust bath in it.

That's not a good idea. They are very likely to eat it. Put down wood chips or since other dry organic matter instead.

Besides what's already been said, I would worry that they'd scratch at it looking for munchies, and end up getting a toe nail stuck in it or eat a long thread that could cause real problems.

Moreover, there are areas where the care and maintenance of artificial turf are difficult. It is a salvation for sites with heavy loads. But it is easy to lay artificial grass where it is impossible to grow a natural one. I hope you will be able to find a way out.
