That's a little light for a leghorn, so you're gonna want to weigh her every day and make sure she's not losing weight. Do you know how to tube feed?
i do not know how to tube feed, but i'm sure i could learn. i'm willing to do whatever.

Since she is loosing weight I would mash up a banana and try feeding it to her along with some really small pieces of whole wheat bread. I agree 3 lbs is light for a leghorn.

P.S. I have a RIR named Tina Turner ❤️ hope your baby gets better ASAP :hugs:fl

After 24 hours with no improvement i took a stool (mostly urates and mucus) to work and spent a few hours looking at under the scope- i work in a human lab and while my parasitology knowledge isn’t the best- i convinced myself i saw coccidia oocysts in her sample. i immediately ordered corid and gave her 0.3ml by mouth everyday for 3 days- as well as adding the recommended dose to the rest of the flocks water. the day after the corid regimen was over (2-3days ago? time is running together!) i gave her some nutridrench in her water.

though most of her droppings appear yellow and foamy- she’s still drinking and moving around some but just appears very weak.

i have the liquid corid. should i pick back up on that & just do it in the water instead of oral drench? i’m on year 5 of having chickens and i’ve never had an illness, i feel like im shooting in the dark.

i dont feel an egg in her vent, but her posture does seem a bit odd. i know one of my white egg layers was laying some wrinkly eggs but i couldn’t figure out who it was. (now that she isn’t laying, im thinking it was her.) i always offer oyster shells but maybe she just wasn’t eating them?

do you know if i can do the calcium and the corid simultaneously? i can stop on my way home from work tonight and pick up calcium + D or tums if that could help?
What does her crop feel like?

I'd get some Calcium into her asap. 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3. Just pop the tablet right into the beak and let her swallow.

Work on hydration. If you are treating for Coccidiosis with Corid, then if she's not drinking, syringe the Corid water into her frequently.

She should be drinking the Mixed Corid water as her only source of drinking water for 5-7days, this is in addition to you giving her the direct oral dose of 0.10ml per pound of weight twice daily for 3days.

Does she have any lice or mites?

Generally you would see some Coccidia Oocysts in a sample. Chickens have those, it's only when there's an overload (Coccidiosis) is there a problem.

With your hen being a Leghorn, her abdomen looking a bit swollen, the droopiness of her comb and the color of the poop, I'd say she's having some reproductive issues. Whether it's having hard time expelling an egg or lash material, can't say. Could be she has laid internally or has eyp or similar.

Do the best you can to get her hydrated, then eating. Wet mushy feed with bits of egg or if you wish, you can tube her if necessary.

Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any extra vitamins/electrolytes that contain B1(Thiamine) to food or water during the course of treatment.

I posted this thread yesterday and woke up this morning to Tina looking much worse.

she’s very weak today, barely able to stand. she’s attracting tons of flies from her pasty butt so I soaked her and while soaking today i felt a definite bulge around her vent that I haven’t felt all week since she’s been ill?

after the soak i realized her vent looks clean but if i apply a tiny bit of pressure (wiping with a cloth) some yellow discharge comes through the vent.

is this a bad egg? did an egg crack inside of her? on my way to buy calcium now, but am i too late?? what can i do???

she’s much worse today. she can barely stand. i was rinsing her off because she’s attracting flies from her poop covered feathers and suddenly i feel a mass? or an egg? around her vent? i haven’t felt this all week and have been feeling her daily. i’m also seeing some streaky clear and yellow discharge from her vent when i wipe her with the towel.

is she egg bound? is this salpingitis? did i waste time with the corid?
