August 2022 Hatch-a-long

Oh gosh me too. I wish you were getting your eggs earlier so we could hatch together... maybe next time haha

@Stacaroni might have babies hatching close to yours!
Think she will be close to you. Lol. About a week before me.

I wish I was too but didn't want to hatch them right before we went camping. Bad enough my babies now will only be 4-5 days old when we go. So glad we have a good pet sitter and they don't need much right now. Still wish Ditzy was raising them. Lol. But less snuggles that way

Yeah and there wouldn't be nearly as many precious pictures if they were out with Ditzy

I wasn't planning on any more hatches this year but then 2 more hens went broody. It's much easier to give them eggs than trying to break them. That makes 6 broody hens out of the 11 mature girls I had and then I had 3 broody ducks! Needless to say, my flock has grown this year!! Unfortunately, this seems to be the Year of the Rooster and have 6-7 that will have to go.

So, I have put 6 eggs under each broody with a hatch date of August 10th. They are a beautiful assortment of browns and blues but will all be a barnyard mix of cochins, BSL, BCM, CCL, Ameraucana so I'm excited to see how they all turn out!

Mystery ducks! No idea what I'll get... like a box of chocolates?

Could be any mix of Silver Appleyard, Black Swedish, Welsh, Pekin, Rouen and Runners!

Can't wait to see what they become :pop

Eeks! More fluffballs! Fingers crossed for another good shipment!
I cant wait to see what they are!! Im hoping to get ducks here soon since you can have ducks in town apparently but cant have more than 5 chickens.

What beautiful eggs!

How exciting that you'll have some mystery babies, too!

P.S. can we please talk about how big egg #1 is? Did a dinosaur lay that?

Man that's funny because my ducks are definitely louder than my chickens. Hahahaha

It's day 5 for my egg babies. #1-11 are all developing like this! (#12 looks infertile)

I always thought ducks were louder. But if i can have 2-5 ducks that makes 10 birds.

Hahah! It's huge, can't wait to see what comes out of that one.

I have ducks as well and they are definitely louder than my chickens however, I also have 5 geese and they are louder than all the birds combined somedays!

It looks like a double yolker! I've heard some people have success hatching 2 babies from a double-yolker but usually one wins out over the other. I will really enjoy hearing about that egg's progress!

What kind of geese do you have?
